Yoga

Our Intention

yoga1

For us Yoga is about working with each individual body, building strength from the inside out, and opening to the flow of life. We believe that everyone can practice and benefit from yoga regardless of age, experience, or level of flexibility.

Our mantra

Our Mantra is to create a sanctuary, where mind, body and spirit get a chance to recharge, and chill out, a space to practice great yoga and truly enjoy it.

Yoga can be as much or as little as you want it to be. Whatever your reason for practicing, or your level of experience – we welcome you to  Oscailt.

Below you will find a brief description of each yoga class type, which we hope will help you choose the most appropriate class to suit your needs and experience.

Traditional Hatha Yoga / Integral Yoga with Tara Yoga Centre every Wednesday 6.30-8.30pm

Tara Yoga Centre was initially established in the UK where the courses opened in London in 2000. We have been running courses in Ireland since 2005. TaraYoga Centre is part of an International group of Yoga schools (known as the ATMAN Federation) and the same teachings/courses are offered by each member school. As with each of our sister schools, Tara Yoga Centre is a non-profit organization committed to the same goal – to promote classical Yoga and Tantra, and to unite & integrate the spiritual practice with the commitments of modern social life.

Why our approach is so unique

The method revealed by our school has been applied with great results by tens of thousands of people all over the world. The fundamental axis of these teachings is the occult law of Resonance, a Universal principle which has been largely veiled in the Yogic & Tantric traditions. We may even say that this law represents the lost secret of the Yoga practice and through the application of this method opens up a new dimension to the experience. What we discover is that absolutely everything in life is resonance.

Yoga is a system of Knowledge and action. By combining the two you achieve transformation. By attending these courses you will never be asked to do something without knowing what the effects of those techniques will be. With each class you will receive detailed printed material covering all the practical and theoretical elements and are welcome to ask for further clarification at any point. You will be supported at every level of your practice, and shown how to integrate what you have learned into your daily life, leading to improvements in every aspect and ultimately greater happiness.

These courses are more than a drop in class. They represent a continuous system of teachings that can go on for as long as you like having many years of study. We welcome people to drop in and try out for a few times before deciding whether they would like to continue with the course though.

The Integral (Traditional Hatha) Yoga Course

Nowadays, Yoga is more famous than genuinely understood. Many people believe it to be simply concerned with the health & flexibility of the physical body, yet one of the main ideas in Yoga is that we have within ourselves an immense power and vast possibilities only that we do not know how to use them. Through the ancient science of Yoga we learn ways to expand and develop the consciousness unlocking all of our latent abilities to the greatest extent. Through Yoga we gain complete awareness of who we truly are and what we can become.

This Yoga course is unique in its new and integral  approach to the teachings of the Traditional Yoga system.

The course points out the coexistence and complementary nature of the apparently different yoga philosophies, which are in fact complementing rather than excluding each other.

Throughout the course you will be taught extensively about Hatha Yoga, Tantra Yoga, Kriya Yoga purifications, Kundalini Yoga, Laya Yoga and MahaVidya Yoga, for example.

You will also receive theoretical explanations about the fundamental principles of Yoga including the occult laws of Resonance, Correspondence (holographic principle), sexual continence and biological transmutation.

In each class you can expect to practice at least 1.5 hours of traditional hatha yoga as practiced in the ancient past, followed by a new lesson.

The Integral Yoga course costs €140 for 12 weeks. You can drop in for a few classes to try it out and see if you want to continue and pay just €12 per class. There are many years of study allowing you to continue for as long as you want.

Being Yoga - Thursdays 7.30 -8.30pm

Being Yoga is an approach to yoga which emphasises the being mode versus the doing mode. We learn to recognise and practise how to rest in being, so that when we return to the outside world we can be embodied in peace and joy even in the midst of ‘doing’, no matter what situation we find ourselves in. (As an example of being mode in practise, when spiritual teacher and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh was asked how he managed to sustain his hectic schedule without taking a holiday, he replied, ’I rest in every step’.)

Being Yoga is a flowing style of Yoga, a moving meditation with the breath which is energising and relaxing at the same time. The practise effortlessly develops strength, balance and suppleness of both body and mind. We use mindfulness to develop internal awareness and to reconnect with the deep wisdom of the body. We explore and rediscover the art of breathing, it is our most potent source of vitality and wellbeing and a powerful anchor to steady our mind and heart which is available at all times and places.

Being mode is the expression of the relaxation response in the body, as opposed to the ‘fight or flight’ stress response which is associated with ‘doing mode’ and inner feelings of tension and panic. In being mode we stimulate energy flow in the body, immune response, nourishment, restoration and the flow of creativity and mental clarity that comes with being relaxed.

The ability to rest in being is something we are all past masters of, as children we did it all the time, we just have to allow ourselves to relearn it. It’s no exaggeration to say it is the key to unlocking health and happiness, it’s very simple, it just needs a little practise!
